I adore Lottie Parker. In the last book I grew impatient with her and it took some enjoyment out of reading it. But with this book she is back in fine form. I can forgive Lottie her faults, we all have them. I just don't want her to lose everything because of them. Her life is always going to be complicated. But she is a great detective and that is also always going to be true. Now if she could apply that intuition to her love life, she would find some real happiness. If I could tell her anything it would be to let Boyd in because he loves her and, admit it or not, she loves him.

There was so much happening in this book from the very beginning. It was like getting several different stories in one amazing package. It all begins in a cemetery and just spirals out from there. So many lives are changed over the course of 10 years. Mysteries are solved but so many more questions keep popping up. And in true Patricia Gibney fashion, the conclusion blew me away.
I am totally entertained by the Lottie Parker series and think they do need to be read in order to get the background and ongoing main character interactions. Lottie is definitely a flawed and sometimes aggravating protagonist, but the story line kept me glued to the book to see who was abducting the women from the train and why. I don't always read every word in some books due to writing being less than my style, but Gibney's style is very readable and her plots are very engrossing. Now I have to wait for hopefully book 5!
Patricia Gibney is skilled at the art of keeping you on the edge of your seat and pulling you into her characters. The twists and turns are like emotional roller coasters that you can't get off. My only complaint is that I'll have to wait for the next book to be published to see what happens with Lottie, Boyd and the rest of the team... Will Lottie tell Rose? Will she and Boyd become official? Will Katie and Louis stay in NY? So many questions!
I wasn't sure at first if I liked this woman and crazy life but each book got me hooked more and by this 4th one I realized I must be a fan. I can't believe what a mess she is but I like her...mess and all. Don't know where the next book will take her but I can't wait to see where that is. She is strangely addictive because she isn't your typical stereotype woman. She has faults ...like us all! If you like different then this is the series for you.
I enjoyed this book more than the last one, Detective Inspector Lottie Parker is the hero again. Story line good, but then the book gets confusing, when the author introduces too many characters at once & you get lost, don,t think I will bother with the rest of the series, although I would like to see what cases Lottie has next.
This is the second book in this series that I've read. The plots are well done. The characterization is a bit heavy-handed. I am unable to identify at all with the mail character, DI Lottie Parker, who is a mess. Yes, she lost her husband a few years ago, and a troubled past with uncertain parentage is hinted at. But, and this is a big but, she seems totally off the wall and unable to control herself or behave in a professional manner. She is almost fired in this book, and perhaps she should be.
I have followed this series from the beginning and just love the dialogue between Lottie and Boyd. It just seems to flow so naturally. I really enjoyed this book which is a fast-paced procedural with lots of surprises. I rarely do a 5 star but I think this one was stellar. I couldn't find anything truly wrong with it. I'm beginning to love the English crime novels. Definately some foul language if you want to avoid that.
